Despite the clouds and rainy weather, last Thursday the Curry Student Center was filled with students getting their free T-shirts and scarfing down hot dogs and ice cream sandwiches.
“It’s been crazy,” said Marissa Fantasia, a freshman nursing major who was helping serve the food which was provided by Chartwells. “It was supposed to be outside.”
A raffle was held giving students a chance to win tickets to that night’s Boston Red Sox game against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park. President Richard Freeland was on hand to congratulate the lucky winners, who then had their picture taken with him.
Freeland also threw in some extra ways to win tickets such as giving them to someone with a coin from 1992. Many began to frantically search their wallets.
Gauri Patil, a junior criminal justice major, was the winner for that round.
“I like sports,” she said. “I’ve been trying to get tickets, so this works out. I just have to find someone to go with now.”
Other activities of the day included a climbing wall and a fastball pitcher’s cage in the ballroom. Freeland admitted his score was 36 mph.
Luis Antunamo, a sophomore computer engineering major, won Red Sox tickets for the second year in a row.
“I don’t know [how], it just happens,” Antunamo said.
The NU cheerleaders were also there, showing school spirit next to the podium with Freeland, who gave them a nod when he announced that they had placed in second at nationals a week earlier.
