The April 23 article that Associate Professor Ross continually misquoted did NOT “promote the building of a football stadium to finance the rest of NU’s athletic programs.”
The article did NOT “claim that the football programs at most schools make money.”
There were NO “claims by members of the athletic program that a stadium would generate future profits.”
There are NO “plans to eliminate any parks much used by local residents.”
I also fail to see how “the increased traffic and noise” on six Saturday afternoons would damage our “community outreach efforts.”
Not only does Asst. Prof. Ross’ letter indicate that he did no more than scan the April 23 article, it also indicates that he totally misses the point of having an on-campus facility.
What HAS been discussed, and accurately reported in the April 23 article, is NOT a football stadium, but a multipurpose facility that could be used by several NU teams as well as students and others.
This facility would not be an “investment” on which a profit would be expected, in the same way a profit is not expected on the Snell Library or Ell Hall.
What an on-campus facility of this type WOULD do is provide a more complete college experience for our students, help our athletic teams in recruiting and for us alums … make us a little prouder of how far our school has come
