If your 21st birthday happened to fall on a day when you were on campus, chances are you celebrated your way into legality at Our House East on Gainsborough Street.
Nine out of ten Huskies over the age of 21 will tell you they vaguely remember their big birthday at the bar just a couple of blocks away from campus. Their memory isn’t hazy because they didn’t have a good time … it’s hazy because they had a GREAT time (ya hear what I’m saying?).
If you have friends at other Boston schools and tell them where you went after a hockey game one Friday night, chances are they will say, “Oh, Our House, that’s on Boylston right?”
Wrong … but it just makes sense to keep Our House, our little-known secret to the outside world. Our House is the “Cheers” of Northeastern. When you walk through the door everyone may not know your name, but once last call comes around things tend to become much friendlier.
It’s small and dark, but the crowd tends to be large and loud, especially on the weekends. But in true Husky fashion, the party doesn’t stop on Sunday night.
Tuesday nights are reserved for karaoke and during the NFL season, football fans can watch the Pats on a number of televisions throughout the bar. It may not look like much, but like anything else at Northeastern, it’s the students that make the place run and also make the time there enjoyable.
More often than not, fellow classmates are behind the bar watching the doors or serving cocktails all while attempting to pay the rent as well as make sure your glass is always full.
The unofficial bar of NU, Our House East, was voted, and rightfully so, the best bar.
