With the upcoming presidential election of 2004, voters are gearing up to decide who they will select. Even those who recently registered are doing their research and voicing their opinions about who they feel would be the best president.
Heidi Buchanan, a middler political science major, is spearheading a new student- run group recently approved by the Student Government Association, called Students for Kerry. The group’s main goal, Buchanan said, “Is to gain visibility at general campaign events such as speeches, and around Northeastern, while showing support for current Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.”
There are Students for Kerry groups at many major universities. When Buchanan came to Northeastern, she was immediately interested in starting the group.
“I did research on all the candidates and Kerry was the best one. When I came to Northeastern, I met other students who also wanted to get involved,” Buchanan said.
The Students for Kerry group is a partisan group currently made up of students who are interns for the campaign, but they are open and welcoming to all students who are interested in getting involved in campaign support for Kerry.
Buchanan is excited to be able to get involved with other schools and plan campaign-related events. She said they also want to increase awareness about Kerry’s policies and goals to people around Northeastern and the Boston area.
Students for Kerry has open meetings on Mondays at 6:15 p.m. in 157 Ryder Hall and can be contacted via e-mail at [email protected].
