I am a 20-year-old college student from the liberal northeast. So, I must be against the war, right? I must be out in the quad with signs and flyers. I must be writing “World Peace” in chalk on the outside of buildings and on the clock tower outside Kariotis (how do I get up there?). I must be lying down in front of the library to represent, represent … what am I representing again? Hey, wait a minute, what year is this? Oh, I certainly thought from the mood around here that we must be flower children of the Vietnam Era.
When I came to college, I had a very faint idea of what beliefs I held. Embarrassingly unfamiliar with our governmental system, I chose to minor in political science. Now the picture is becoming clearer. Unfortunately, I must be labeled.
So here we go. I am 100 percent against abortion in all situations. Yup, I must be a Republican. But wait, that is a position I take only for myself, and do not wish to enforce that on other people, so I do not believe it should be illegal. Okay, phew, back to Democrat. Hold on though, I have not now, and will not ever, jump on the liberal bandwagon and continuously condemn the idiocy of our national government because I believe way too strongly in this system. That’s conservative, right? But what about gun control, which I believe is not an inalienable right? Does that mean I am Independent? I’m confused …
Propaganda, propaganda everywhere, and no real truth to be had. If you believe our fearless leader, you must be na
