Despite having three players in double-digit scoring, the Northeastern women’s basketball team dropped their second game of the season, losing to Providence College Monday night, 62-48.
Junior Francesca Vanin scored 13 points, and senior veterans Melissa Kowalski and Joi Jefferson each added 10 of their own. Despite the variety of scoring, the Huskies could not top Providence, falling to .500 on the season. Junior Quiana Copeland led the Friars with 16 points, and Keisha Blackwell added 10.
The game was a close one at the start. With 16:30 left in the first half, the Huskies exploded into a 9-0 run to take an 11-4 lead. They led the game until there was four minutes left to play, when Providence took back the lead with a bucket from Janell Fabor, making it 18-17. Kowalski had other ideas in mind, however, leading the Huskies back down the floor and sinking a three-pointer to give NU a 20-18 lead.
