In a meet acting as a practice run in between the Great Dane Classic and Adidas Boston Indoor Games, the Northeastern track teams traveled to the University of New Hampshire on Saturday.
The event, held at Durham’s Paul Sweet Oval, was won by both the UNH men (165 points) and women (198), well ahead of the last-place Husky men (47) and women (33).
Freshman Matt Valuk, a Nashua, N.H. native, shined in front of his home crowd with first-place finishes in the 55 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash.
With a 7.92 time in the 55 meter hurdles, Valuk pulled ahead of the pack while his 23.58 time in the 200 was just ahead of BC’s Tom Wehr (24.21) and Holy Cross’ Christopher Morris (24.27).
Senior captain Ryan Cahill had an excellent day as well, excelling with a first-place finish in the pole vault (14-11).
On the women’s side, senior Wittly Jourdan took second in the pentathalon, while junior Jenn Curato placed second in the pole vault and sophomore Melanie Vaughn earned a third place finish in the 400-meter run.
Next up for Northeastern is the Adidas Boston Indoor Games, taking place Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center at 4:30 p.m. Among the 16 teams competing in the event will be Albany, Colgate, UNH and Yale.
