Two gun-slingers wound two men in Ruggles

Kelvin Thames, an 18-year-old of Roxbury, and 19-year-old Terrell Harris were arraigned on gun charges on Tuesday in Roxbury Municipal Court for shooting two individuals in the Ruggles station busway at 8:09 p.m. last Friday, according to a statement released by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Entry of the week: Friday, Feb. 7, 3:11 a.m. A caller from Allied trash removal reported a man asleep inside his vehicle in the Ryder Lot. The vehicle was on and in drive, and was moving forward every time the man moved. Officers reported the driver was intoxicated and unresponsive, and had vomited in the car. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested, and the man was woken and the car placed into park. The driver, a student, was transported to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the car was towed.

The News interviewed Sir Richard John Roberts, College of Science’s new distinguished professor. Roberts, originally from Derby, England, won a Nobel prize in physiology or medicine in 1993. Roberts is the chief scientific officer at New England Biolabs; Donald Comb, board chairman at the Biolabs and creator of the Ocean Genome Legacy (OGL), a nonprofit marine science research organization that will now join Northeastern’s Marine Science Center. New Social Impact Lab calls for charitable causes

NU ranked third greenest school in world

Northeastern can add a new superlative to its list of accolades and recognitions. Last month, the GreenMetric 2013 World Rankings, compiled by the Universitas Indonesia, came out, and listed Northeastern as the “greenest” school in America and third in the world, trailing only the University of Nottingham in England and University College Cork National University of Ireland.

Entry of the Week: Wednesday, Jan. 19, 11:27 p.m. Someone reported the smell of marijuana coming from a room in Speare Hall. Officers spoke to two students in the room, who had placed a towel under the door, and whose eyes were “bloodshot and glassy.” No drugs were found.

Faculty Senate votes to redesign NU Core and master programs
