Jumpshell cofounder analyzes mayoral candidates’ housing policies

Professor Nick Daniloff named as Journalism Educator of the Year

Through role play and a real-world approach to teaching, School of Journalism Professor Nick Daniloff earned the honor of Journalism Educator of the Year by the New England Newspaper and Press Association (NENPA). Daniloff accepted the award on Oct. 10 at the New England Newspaper Conference.

CAMD looking to merge departments

College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) dean Xavier Costa proposed in a letter addressed to the CAMD faculty and students on Oct. 3 the potential changes to the college, like merging the music and theatre departments and School of Journalism and communication studies department.

Entry of the week: Saturday, Oct. 19, 1:06 p.m. University Health and Counseling Services staff reported a student waiting in the lobby to file a report on fraud. An officer reported the student’s mother in China was scammed for $12,000 after a friend sent the mother a video from the student stating she was her daughter and she needed the money for a course at Harvard University.

Tucked in the basement of Hayden Hall is a classroom-sized space with a half a dozen desks and chairs, a couple of computers and a few knitted tapestries hanging from the walls. It’s not clear what the proper word would be to describe the room, or others like it. For the 20 lecturers who teach an introduction to business course at Northeastern, this is their shared space, their common area, their workroom.

Kappa Sigma 5k raises money for military heroes and families

Between Tom Brady and David Ortiz, Boston saw a few champions this Columbus Day weekend. A few lesser known names were amongst them, when the men of Kappa Sigma at Northeastern sponsored an inaugural charity 5K held on Oct. 13 at the scenic Boston Esplanade.

Aoun shows support for military students

In light of the government’s shutdown and subsequent suspension of the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) program, President Joseph E. Aoun urged Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to continue the program and declared Northeastern would fund those students for the rest of the fall semester.

IMP presentation to BRA cancelled

Northeastern was scheduled to present its Institutional Master Plan (IMP) at the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) board of directors meeting held in City Hall on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.. But at 4:30 p.m., Northeastern withdrew its IMP from the meeting’s agenda, following discussions with the BRA.
