UPDATED: RAs advised to keep students in line during Super Bowl

An update on popular Boston news blog Universal Hub last night raised concerns around the city, quoting an email sent to students by a university official as saying “If you do choose to go outside during or after the Superbowl, know that you will likely be questioned and directed to go somewhere indoors as quickly as possible. If you refuse, you are subject to immediate arrest.”

Provost seeks student input

Members of the Student Government Association (SGA) shared various grievances with Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Bruce Ronkin during Monday’s Senate meeting, but did not receive any specific details as to when those problems will be solved.

Northeastern Provost Stephen Director announced Friday that Hugh Courtney will serve as dean of the College of Business Administration starting in July. Courtney was vice dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Future housing plans unclear

NU aims for safe Super Bowl Sunday

The Boston Police Department (BPD), Northeastern University Division of Public Safety (NUPD), and the Department of Housing and Residential Life are joining forces Sunday night to ensure Super Bowl celebrations on campus are safe. Heightened police and Resident Assistant (RA) presences on campus Sunday night are the university’s answer to a 2004 riot in which a student’s brother, who was visiting campus, was killed when he was struck by a car.

Tickets to the 60th annual Beanpot Tournament went on sale Tuesday at the Matthews Arena box office. The Huskies will take on the Boston College Eagles Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. at TD Banknorth Garden. Tickets are $42 and good for admission to the first and second rounds of the tournament. The last chance to buy tickets before the event is tonight (Jan. 26) between 5 and 8 p.m. in the box office. Students must present a valid Husky ID to purchase tickets.

Pharmacy school adds major

Northeastern’s Faculty Senate approved a new major in the School of Pharmacy yesterday, a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences which will allow students interested in the growing field more options.

Campus groups thriving

In 2011, Northeastern had 280 organizations, Foster said, which held a combined 900 events. He said he was most taken aback by the 22,000 space reservations made by the university’s faculty, staff and student groups for the 100 activity spaces available. Foster said this illustrates the shortage of space available for students groups and events.

Office helps students transition off campus

Student group, SGA align against proposed MBTA cuts

Since the Northeastern branch of Students Against T Cuts was founded last week, members have appeared at a public meeting and joined the city-wide T Riders Union in a rally voicing their opposition to proposed service cuts by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
