NU gets record 44,189 applicants

Northeastern’s number of applications climbed again this year, from last year’s record-setting 43,948 to 44,189, topping the university’s all-time high for the second year in a row, officials said. As the number of applications to Northeastern increases, so does the percentage of students it must deny admission because of limited enrollment space, Jane Brown, vice president for enrollment management, said.

Curry, Marino renovation plans unveiled

Food vendors Sweet Tomatoes Neapolitan Pizza, Kigo Kitchen, UBurger and Chick-fil-A are in negotiations with the university to install locations in the Curry Student Center this summer, Dr. Laura Wankel, Northeastern’s vice president of student affairs announced last night. These additions to the Curry Student Center could push out some current vendors, including Wendy’s and D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches.

The truck parks in the Snell Library Quad Monday through Friday for lunch and for late-night meals Thursday through Saturday.

The US Army’s Cadet Command awarded Northeastern’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program the MacArthur Award this week. The award is based on the ideals of “duty, honor and country,” as well as the cadets’ achievements, performance and retention rate. The Army gave the award to eight schools, and Northeastern was recognized as the best of the second brigade, which includes the 41 senior Army ROTC programs in the Northeast.

Knockout group protests Barstool party

The protest comes after a week of intense debate between members of the Northeastern group Knockout Barstool, and supporters of Portnoy’s blog, which is targeted to college-aged men and often features photos of scantily clad women. The protesters have taken an issue with jokes published on the website about rape.
