Tension over nightlife restrictions continue

Boston is known for two things that don’t mix – its large population of college students and its early closing time. Local venue owners and managers have recently renewed the push for later closing times and bottle services at their establishments. However, with Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s recent implementation of a Nightclub Enforcement Unit and the Boston’s Licensing Board’s refusal of late-night venues to stay open past 2 a.m., the city is squashing these efforts, but letting a few changes slip by.

Husky Happenings

A resident of 1049 Tremont St., near International Village (INV), found a 50-year-old neighbor found fatally wounded Thursday, Feb. 9, according to reports from the Boston Police Department (BPD). Initial reports based on police radio transcripts indicated the victim was killed with a baseball bat, but BPD officials declined to confirm the weapon. Northeastern Director of Communications Renata Nyul confirmed no one involved in the crime had university affiliations. “Other than the close proximity of the location, there is absolutely no affiliation between the incident and Northeastern,” Nyul said in a statement.
