Newbury Street gives shops a place to call home

Frequently dubbed the go-to shopping area for many Back Bay residents, Newbury Street is continually crowded with shoppers, from the usual group of college students to the occasional cluster of tourists.

Martin J. Walsh of Dorchester was the winner of Tuesday night’s mayoral primary election. Pulling ahead of John Connolly, the predicted front-runner, by 1.25 percent, Walsh won with a total of 20,838 votes, according to the City of Boston.

Artists turn business savvy at Made in Fort Point

In a brick-walled, quaint studio full of ceramics decorated with architectural drawings, artist Nicole Aquillano gently wiped newly glazed mugs as her 8-year-old cat, Luna, licked her paws at her side. The glazed ceramics, inspired by her childhood home in Pittsburgh, are ready to be showcased and sold at Made in Fort Point, a store located a ten minute walk away from Broadway Station.

Nearly five months have passed since the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings and the subsequent manhunt and shutdown of an entire city. This past weekend, a new flood of students moved into Northeastern who were receiving acceptance letters and putting down deposits at the time of the attacks. Older students, most of whom left in a time of chaos, are now returning to the city.

Mayoral race heats up in rush to succeed Menino

Stepping down after the longest mayoral stint in Boston history, Mayor Thomas M. Menino opened the floodgates of the 2013 election in March of this year. In the months following Menino’s retirement announcement, 12 candidates jumped into the race for mayor.

The city of Boston and much of the surrounding area is under a "shelter in place" declaration as police continue an "ongoing manhunt for a person wanted in connection with Monday’s Marathon bombings," the state website said. All students and staff should stay in doors. Be sure to keep doors locked and stay away from windows to stay safe. The university will remain closed, all campus events are cancelled, and meal service will be provided to students living in residence halls without a dining hall. Authorities investigating the devastating Boston Marathon bombing have made significant progress in identifying the person or persons responsible for the attack, although reports that a suspect was in custody Wednesday were premature, a city official told The News.
