Crime Log: Jan. 25 to Jan. 31

February 3, 2011
Entry of the Week: An 18-year-old student reported he was walking on Boylston Street when he was approached by a heavy-set, middle-aged man who asked him to loan him money to get his car out of the shop. The student gave him $20 but the man said that was not enough. The student made two withdrawals at an ATM for several hundred dollars and the man gave him studded earrings and his number as collateral. When the student called the man about getting his money back, he said he had a flat tire and wouldn’t be able to return the money that night. BPD is now investigating the case.

Entry of the Week - Monday, Jan. 24 12:30 a.m. An NUPD officer saw an intoxicated man on a bike on Columbus Avenue. The man’s eyes were glazed and he had vomited on himself. The 20-year-old was a student at Boston University and said he was drinking with friends from Northeastern. He did not need medical attention and NUPD drove him to the Boston University campus.

Entry of the Week: A 19-year-old in West Village C called to report she was horsing around with her 19-year-old roommate when her roommate fell, hit her head and seemed to stop breathing. EMTs found the student, an athlete, who was conscious and complaining about a sore head. Both students had been drinking earlier. The injured student was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by ambulance for her head injury. The hospital reported she had run away, concerned she’d be in trouble for drinking. She was located and was taken back to her hospital room. She was not reported to OSCCR because there were no indications that alcohol played a role in the accident but will be followed up with by the Office of Prevention and Education (OPEN).

Entry of the Week: A proctor at INV reported that his scooter was stolen. He left it leaning against the proctor station when he took a break and found it missing when he got back. After playing back surveillance video, an officer located the scooter with a student who assumed it was discarded property. He was apologetic and returned the scooter. He was reported to OSCCR.

Crime Log: Dec. 1 – 5, 2010

December 9, 2010
Entry of the Week: Dec. 4, 2:35 p.m. - Officers responded to a call reporting a loud party on the roof of 80 Fenway. When officers arrived, they found 250 people on the roof of the building, many of whom were wearing T-shirts advertising a keg party tour. NUPD officers learned of several other locations on the party tour and closed a building on Hemenway Street before the party could start. The three 20-year-old students who hosted the party were reported to OSCCR, and will be summonsed for providing alcohol to minors.

Entry of the Week, Friday, Nov. 19, 2 a.m. : BPD officers reported they found an intoxicated 19-year-old student on Columbus Avenue wearing only shorts. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).

Entry of the Week: Monday, Nov. 15, 1 a.m. A woman from New York called NUPD to report her 15-year-old granddaughter had run away with her 18-year-old boyfriend, who is a Northeastern student. Officers found the granddaughter, who then spoke to her grandmother and agreed to take a bus back to New York.

November 11, 2010
Wednesday, Nov. 6, 3 p.m. A student reported his cell phone was stolen in mid-September. The student told his parents of the theft, but they failed to cancel the service plan. He notified NUPD after his parents received a $7,000 phone bill.

November 4, 2010
Friday, Oct. 29, 2 a.m. Police responded to reports of an assault on Huntington Avenue. A 21-year-old with no affiliation to the university stole a hat from a female student, who was walking with a friend. When her friend tried to stand up for her, the person who stole the hat punched the friend in the face. The student was not seriously injured. Boston Police Department (BPD) officers assumed jurisdiction over this case.

October 28, 2010
Friday, Oct. 22, 2 a.m. Officers responded to a call from the Renaissance Parking Garage about a student who appeared to be assaulted. Upon arrival, the officers found a drunk 19-year-old student in one of the stairwells. NUPD officers are uncertain how the student became injured. He was reported to OSCCR.

Entry of the week: Sunday, Oct. 17, 4:15 p.m. An 18-year-old student on the sixth floor of International Village (INV) had his Facebook account hacked when he used another student’s laptop to check his profile but forgot to log out of it. The hacker changed the student’s birthday to Oct. 18, prompting many of his Facebook friends to wish him a happy birthday, even though his birthday isn’t until May. The investigation will continue to identify the culprit.

Friday, October 8, 11:30 p.m. The manager of Symphony Market reported a student urinated on the shelves in the rear of the store then made a purchase with his credit card. Officers were able to identify the student using the record of his credit card purchase. He has not been located yet.
