Women’s hockey: Seven seniors leave program on the upswing

The Northeastern women’s hockey team saw its season come to an abrupt end two Saturdays ago, falling to No. 9 University of Connecticut 4-1 in the Hockey East quarter finals. The Huskies (17-9-7, 9-6-6-4) hadn’t lost to UConn (21-9-7, 10-5-6-1) in three previous season matches, winning twice in a shootout and once in regulation. But UConn jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three goals within 1:25 in the first period and held on the rest of the way.

Swimming & diving: Season ends with 8th place finish at CAAs

The season came to an end for the swimming & diving team as it placed eighth out of nine teams in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Feb. 24-27 in Fairfax, Va. The Huskies scored a total of 179 points in the four-day competition. The squad’s performance in the tournament was bittersweet, head coach Roy Coates said.

Player of the Week: Brittany Moriarty

Tri-Captain Brittany Moriarty of the women’s track & field team shattered the school 5k record by more than 20 seconds at the ECAC Indoor Championship last Saturday. Running her last race as a Husky, she crossed the finish line with a time of 17:01.13. Her efforts this weekend earned her Huntington News Player of the Week honors.

Throughout my first few years as a college student, although the temptation was omnipresent, I had never traveled southward during Spring Break. Too often, hockey games of great significance tended to coincide with our scheduled vacation, and, unfortunately, this year presented no exception.
