Taken to a fifth game, it was hard to predict what would happen next for the Northeastern volleyball team against Harvard Tuesday night at Solomon Court.
The Huskies (9-7) and Crimson (5-4) traded off wins in the first four games of the match, before Northeastern took the deciding fifth game 15-7.
Sophomore outside hitter Whitney Turner posted a career-high 26 kills in the match, while junior middle Larissa Adomat added another 19 to pace Northeastern.
Harvard tied the score twice in the first game, first at 11 and then at 18, but the Huskies were able to take command late and win in convincing fashion, 30-18.
A close second game saw the Huskies reverse roles and take a step behind the Crimson, as they were only able to tie twice in a 30-26 loss.
Adomat added seven of her kills in the third game, as the Huskies looked primed again with a 30-20 win. Then, in the fourth, with Northeastern in command, Harvard forced an attack error, taking the lead 24-23, and eventually the game,
30-24.
In the fifth, Turner shined with five kills as the Huskies edged the Crimson in the final frame.
Kira Batura added 17 kills in the contest, while Ashley Reeves had 14.
Northeastern had an impressive weekend at the Pennsylvania Invitational, downing 12-2 Syracuse 3-2 in the opening round. They lost to Pennsylvania 3-1 in their next match-up, but responded with a 3-2 victory over St. Francis and a 3-0 shutout of Georgetown on Sunday.
America East play begins for the Huskies on Tuesday when they host Hartford at Solomon Court (7 p.m.).
