A Northeastern student was stabbed in the face Tuesday morning by a fellow resident of 3 Douglass Park, Boston Police said.
Richard Little, 39, allegedly grabbed Harsha Bhojwani, 23, pulled her into his apartment and then stabbed her above her right eye, police said.
Bhojwani, who escaped and called 9-1-1 at 9:48 a.m., was taken to Boston Medical Center and was treated and released, police said.
University officials did not release a statement yesterday concerning the incident.
Little barricaded himself in his apartment, where police spent almost two hours attempting to take him into custody.
“A forced entry was made by the Boston Police entry team and the suspect was located inside his apartment in the bathroom, in possession of a butcher knife, another knife and a screwdriver, attempting to cut his own wrist,” said police spokesman Michael McCarthy. “[Little] was hit with a pepper ball from an air gun and he was forced to drop the knife and was taken into custody.”
Little was taken to Boston Medical Center and was treated for lacerations to his wrists.
Police officials said Little was suffering from a mental disorder and was off his prescribed medication for a couple of days.
“[Little] was delusional and hallucinating. He believed we were coming through the walls,” said Boston Police Superintendent Robert Dunford.
Neighbors who watched the ordeal said emergency officials were trying to prevent Little from jumping out of his fourth-floor window.
“[The police] brought out a trampoline to keep him from jumping out the window,” said Douglass Park resident Paul Smith, who watched the incident from the ground. “I saw him standing on the window sill, then he sat down on his desk and started waving his knife around.”
Dunford said after Little is released from the hospital, he will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
