If the prices of topnotch salons along Newbury Street keep students running home for a trim, Boston has a number of places that can take a little off the top without taking too much out of the wallet.
Prices vary depending on length of hair, styling and any additional work including highlights, color and chemical altering. Still, the area surrounding campus has a few barbershops and salons that are cost-effective.
For those looking to save a trip as well as saving money, Supercuts, located on the first floor of the Curry Student Center, is a logical choice. Not only do they accept the Husky Card, but they offer coloring services as well. Haircuts for both men and women start at $13.95.
Men seeking a no-frills, simple cut can stop by Sal’s Barbershop at 303 Huntington Ave. They don’t accept the Husky Card, but with cuts costing about $14, it’s a price most students can swing.
Also located on Huntington Avenue is Maximum Image Salon, at 311 Huntington Ave. Men’s haircuts begin at about $15, while women’s cost around $30. They offer color and are currently setting up Husky Card capabilities.
On the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Huntington Avenue, City Hair gives cuts at student prices for men at $15 and women at $25. The store is conveniently located (easily accessible for students living on Columbus Avenue via the Gainsborough Footbridge) and accepts the Husky Card.
Students can get a haircut for $6 to $10 at the Learning Institute for Beauty Sciences (LIBS) at 867 Boylston St. The cost is so low because the stylists are still beauty school students. Considering both the cost and the potential risk, it’s a small price to pay on both accounts.
