7:18 p.m.
An officer found what appeared to be fresh graffiti on the front of Burstein Hall. The officer filed a work order to have the graffiti removed.
Tuesday, July 31
12:30 a.m.
An officer reported that there was a suspicious male in the Columbus Parking Lot. The man hung a sweatshirt on a motorcycle that did not belong to him, walked away and came back shortly thereafter. An officer stopped the man, who has no university affiliation. He was issued a trespass warning and sent on his way. There was no damage to the motorcycle.
9:55 a.m.
The owner of Chicken Lou’s reported that upon arriving to work the previous day, he noticed the front door was unlocked and $20 was missing from the donation box. He said that for the past two weeks, he had found the doors unlocked after he locked them. He was unsure how many vendors had keys. He said he planned to change the locks.
10:01 a.m.
A staff member reported that there was a man and a woman on the second floor of the Curry Student Center (CSC). The woman had a black eye and appeared to be unsteady on her feet. Both were issued trespass warnings.
2:20 p.m.
Two students reported that they had been scammed out of money between 4 and 5 p.m. the previous day in the parking lot of a Best Buy in Medford. The suspect allegedly told them he had an emergency and needed some money. The students gave him $2 but felt pressured to give more. They gave the man $7 total. They then watched the man attempt to get money from other people. The suspect was allegedly in a group of three to four people in a nearby vehicle.
Wednesday, August 1
9:21 a.m.
A staff member in Ell Hall reported that he received a threatening email from an unknown source to his university email account. A responding officer reported that it appeared to be a scam to extort money.
10:40 a.m.
A student reported that she was being stalked and harassed by her ex-boyfriend, who has no university affiliation. She said she dated him for a couple of weeks approximately two years ago. Since then, he has allegedly sent letters to her permanent residence and has called her cell phone on several occasions. She said that the last time she saw or heard from him was the previous Monday at the Marino Center, while she was working out, at which time he grabbed her arm. He told her that he is working at the Prudential Center, which worried her because of its proximity to the university. She said she had not notified her local police department or the Boston Police Department (BPD) of the situation. She also said there were no restraining orders in place, nor did she want to obtain one. She just wanted him to stop contacting her. Detectives met with her ex-boyfriend and reported that he understands what will happen if he continues to contact the student.
Thursday, August 2
8:59 a.m.
A staff member in Meserve Hall reported that a university computer was stolen sometime between 3:30 p.m. the day before and 8:30 a.m. that day.
1:34 p.m.
A YMCA staff member reported that there had been a sudden death in a room on the third floor. NUPD officers responded as well as BPD and EMS. An officer reported that the deceased man, who has no university affiliation, was from the Cardinal Medeiros Transitional Program. The Medical Examiner determined that the death was due to natural causes.
9:25 p.m.
A student reported that he left his backpack in his vehicle between 6 and 8:30 p.m. and it was missing when he returned. The student left the windows partially open in his vehicle. The backpack contained a laptop.
Friday, August 3
7:49 a.m.
A YMCA staff member reported that there was a woman who appeared to be in distress in a stairwell. NUPD, BPD and EMS responded. An officer performed CPR on the woman, who appeared to be in her mid-40s. She was transported to Boston Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Officers reported that the death appeared to be drug-related and she does not appear to have any university affiliation. The victim had no identification and BPD is attempting to identify her using fingerprints and photos.
5:58 p.m.
A student reported that someone tried to rob him as he walked towards the Camden Footbridge at 11 p.m. the previous evening. The student was not injured. Both NUPD and BPD filed reports.
Saturday, August 4
12:25 a.m.
An officer reported speaking with two boys, eight and 11 years old, who were riding their bicycles on Huntington Avenue without adult supervision. NUPD contacted the boys’ mothers and returned them to their residences on Annunciation Road.
Sunday, August 5
1:42 a.m.
A student reported that a woman appeared to be crawling on the ground in the North Lot. NUPD officers responded and reported that BPD and EMS were already on scene with the female. She initially would not identify herself. Officers eventually identified her as a 23-year-old Northeastern student, but she remained combative. Boston EMS transported the student to Beth Israel Hospital for further evaluation.
Monday, August 6
3:44 p.m.
An officer stopped and spoke to three men, who have no university affiliation, because of suspicion of drug use in Krentzman Quadrangle. The officer confiscated a small amount of a Class D substance and all three men were given a trespass warning.
Tuesday, August 7
12:48 p.m.
A staff member reported that a car jack was stolen from inside a university van when it was parked in the Gainsborough Garage the previous week.
1:19 p.m.
An officer spoke with two men, who have no university affiliation, in the alley behind Uno Chicago Grill on Huntington Avenue because of suspicion of drug use. The officer confiscated two small bags of a Class D substance.
1:57 p.m.
A student reported that her BMW bicycle was stolen from the bike racks in front of the Cabot Center. She said she parked her bike there at 10:20 a.m. and when she returned 1:50 p.m., the bike was missing. The bike had been secured with a cable lock.
4:52 p.m.
A student reported that his vehicle was broken into while parked in the Columbus Parking Lot. He said he parked the vehicle on Sunday at 12:30 a.m. When he returned, he allegedly found his trunk open and his toolbox missing.
7:59 p.m.
A student reported that his Schwinn bicycle was parked on the bike rack by Hayden Hall between 3 and 7:55 p.m. The bike was missing upon his return.
Wednesday, August 8
8:54 a.m.
Dennis J. Pina walked into NUPD headquarters to turn himself in on six outstanding arrest warrants. The 58-year-old man, who has no university affiliation, had heard that NUPD was looking for him.
Thursday, August 9
12:04 a.m.
A proctor in International Village (INV) reported that a man was vomiting outside the building. A responding officer spoke to a 19-year-old, who is not a student but is attending a program at Northeastern and staying in INV. The man was conscious but disoriented. Boston EMS responded and transported him to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to being transported, he informed the officer that he had been drinking with his friend, who is attending the same program and also living in INV. The officer and an RA entered the friend’s room to conduct a well-being check. They spoke to the resident and determined he was not in need of medical attention. He said that he did have a few drinks but that he was not intoxicated.
12:15 a.m.
An officer saw a 23-year-old woman assaulting her boyfriend outside Cappy’s II on Huntington Avenue. Neither person is affiliated with the university. An officer placed the woman into custody for domestic assault. BPD responded but declined jurisdiction.
1:27 a.m.
An officer saw a seemingly intoxicated man in the lobby of INV. He was identified as a Tufts University student who was conscious but disoriented. Boston EMS responded and determined he did not need hospitalization.
2:58 p.m.
A student approached an officer to report that his motor scooter was stolen on Hemenway Street in front of Stetson West. BPD requested that the victim go to Boston Police Headquarters to file a report.
4:33 p.m.
A staff member reported that a university-issued laptop was missing from his Cullinane Hall office, which was unattended between 3 and 4 p.m. that day.
Friday, August 10
2:31 a.m.
A 55-year-old man, with no university affiliation, flagged down an officer to report that he was punched in the head by an unknown person. Boston EMS and BPD were notified. The victim was not interested in pressing charges and could not provide a description of the suspect. BPD arrived and assumed jurisdiction. Boston EMS transported the victim to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for further evaluation.
1:02 p.m.
The manager of Wollaston’s in the Marino Center reported that a man had attempted to steal eye drops worth $3.50 from the store. Officers checked the area but could not locate the suspect.
Saturday, August 11
2:47 a.m.
A student in Willis Hall asked for an evaluation of her friend, a 21-year-old female student who she said was intoxicated. Responding officers reported that the student was conscious but not alert. Officers learned that she had five to seven drinks while celebrating her 21st birthday. Boston EMS responded and transported the student to Boston Medical Center.
Sunday, August 12
3:45 a.m.
A student in White Hall reported loud noise coming from a room. Officers spoke with two students who agreed to be quiet.
