The No. 25 men’s soccer team lost to No. 24 Old Dominion University 1-0 Friday night, snapping its 12-game unbeaten streak and solidifying a second-place finish in the CAA.
With a win and Drexel University tie or loss, the Huskies (11-2-4, 6-1-3 CAA) would have leapfrogged the Dragons and taken over first place and the right to host the CAA postseason tournament next weekend. But Drexel beat James Madison University 2-0 Friday to retain the top spot in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, ODU (11-3-2) sophomore forward Ivan Militar took a feed and beat NU senior goalkeeper Oliver Blum to the top corner in the 53rd minute for his second goal of the year and the game’s only tally.
Blum finished with a season-high seven saves in the loss, while Monarchs senior goalkeeper Victor Francoz needed only two saves to preserve the shutout.
Regardless of the loss, Northeastern will have a bye in the first round of the CAA playoffs and will play in the semifinals on Nov. 9.
