Men’s hockey freshman forward Cam Darcy will no longer play for Northeastern, the Athletics department announced in a statement this morning.
The statement said the departure was due to personal reasons.
“On behalf of the entire Northeastern hockey community, I would like to wish Cam the best in his future endeavors,” head coach Jim Madigan said in the statement emailed to The News. “I enjoyed working with Cam and I believe he will have a successful future in whichever path he chooses.”
Multiples tweets on Tuesday said Darcy intends to play for the Muskegon (Mich.) Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League, effective immediately, as he’d been added to their current roster.
Darcy, a 6-foot rookie from South Boston, originally committed to Northeastern under former head coach Greg Cronin. He was one of several recruits to retract his commitment upon Cronin’s departure for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs last fall but recommitted to current head coach Jim Madigan in Oct. 2011.
Darcy had two assists in nine games for the Huskies, both of which came in Northeastern’s 3-1 upset of No. 1 Boston College on Oct. 13.
