Entry of the Week: Thursday, Feb. 28, 10:57 p.m.
A student reported she was being harassed by her roommate, who kept signing her up for advertisements through the mail. Officers responded and reported that both residents are new transfer students who knew each other through high school and moved in together. The reporting student said they both started signing each other up for advertisements so that they would have mail. She now thinks this has gone too far.
Monday, Feb. 25
11:46 a.m.
A student reported his unattended laptop was stolen from the second floor of the Curry Student Center (CSC).
8:24 p.m.
A student reported his cell phone was stolen from his bag while he walked from the second floor of Snell Library to the Snell Quad.
Tuesday, Feb. 26
1:12 a.m.
A student reported his wallet was stolen from the men’s locker room in the Marino Center.
2:40 a.m.
A student reported he was involved in an argument with his girlfriend and she had locked him out of his room, where he had personal belongings. Northeastern University Division of Public Safety (NUPD) officers responded and spoke with the students, who said it was a misunderstanding.
3:11 p.m.
A student reported being physically assaulted outside a room in West Village E on Feb. 3 at 11:45 p.m. by two residents of the room. He also reported that one of the residents used homophobic and racial slurs toward him. NUPD detectives met with the student and filed a report.
9:58 p.m.
An officer reported two men in the rear of Ryder Hall had open containers of alcohol. The officer ran their names through the NUPD system with no results and sent the men on their way.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
8:52 a.m.
A Northeastern staff member reported a faculty member’s laptop was stolen from her office in Holmes Hall. Officers responded and reported that it appeared someone used a screwdriver to break into the room.
10:13 a.m.
A student reported her wallet was stolen from an unsecured locker on the third floor of the Badger and Rosen SquashBusters Facility earlier that morning.
12:53 p.m.
A Northeastern staff member reported receiving harassing phone calls from a person unaffiliated with the university. Officers responded and reported that the caller had been complaining about inappropriate postings on the Northeastern College of Computer and Information Science listserver that he wanted deleted. She informed him that she would look into it, but the man did not feel she was moving fast enough.
1:17 p.m.
A student reported her wallet was stolen from her backpack while she was sleeping outside a classroom in West Village G.
9:20 p.m.
A Resident Assistant (RA) in International Village West reported a man was passed out on the 12th floor. Officers responded and reported that an 18-year-old student was intoxicated and conscious but not alert. Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the student to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Thursday, Feb. 28
10:18 a.m.
A student reported that her unattended laptop was stolen from the fourth floor of Snell Library. She said she stepped away from it for two minutes to use the restroom and when she returned the laptop was gone. Someone in the area told her that a person had picked it up and walked off with it.
Friday, March 1
1:22 p.m.
The Residence Director (RD) in Davenport Commons A reported that someone created an email account impersonating her and sent fake emails to residents.
4:31 p.m.
A student in Snell Library reported he left his laptop unattended for a few minutes and when he returned, it was gone.
Saturday, March 2
2:08 a.m.
An RA reported that a man was standing in front of Punter’s Pub and bleeding from the head. It appeared he had just been involved in a fight. Officers responded and spoke with the former student who stated he was assaulted by two men who hit him with some sort of metal pipe. Boston Police were notified and responded for the report. Boston EMS responded to evaluate the laceration to the man’s head. The former student declined an ambulance and was driven to the hospital by a friend. Officers checked the area for the suspect, described as being white with blonde hair, wearing skinny jeans and carrying a large backpack.
An officer then reported seeing a person in front of West Village A, suffering from lacerations received during the fight. Boston EMS responded and the man, who has no university affiliation, declined medical assistance. Officers later reported seeing two men, Northeastern students, dragging a person with no Northeastern affiliation. Officers stopped the group and arrested a student, Matthew Carroll, who assaulted a police officer. He was booked for assault and battery on a police officer and for assault and battery with a deadly weapon (a skateboard) on the man who was being dragged down the street. The officer was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
8:25 a.m.
Officers reported stopping two people with no university affiliation on Coventry Street. A man was pulling a woman by the arm. Officers requested that a Mandarin-speaking police officer respond to the scene. Boston Police responded and assumed jurisdiction.
11:38 a.m.
A woman with no university affiliation walked into NUPD headquarters to report she needed a place to stay because she did not feel safe at home. She reported that she was trying to contact a professor at Northeastern. A check of the university directory showed there is no current professor by the name of the person she said she was looking for. Boston Police responded and transported the woman to Rosie’s Place.
Sunday, March 3
1:56 a.m.
Boston Police reported that they were looking for two men wanted for an assault and battery that took place at the corner of Huntington Avenue and Gainsborough Street. A security officer on Gainsborough Street reported that the suspects may have run to West Village G. Officers found a suspect in a room in West Village G who matched the description. Officers spoke to a UMass-Lowell student who admitted to hitting the victim, who was later identified as a student. Officers spoke to the victim in Boston Medical Center. The student declined to press charges.
6:28 p.m.
A student reported his laptop was stolen from his home at 610 Columbus Ave. He reported that he had filed a report with Boston Police, and that he believes a student had kicked open his locked bedroom door to steal the laptop. A woman’s purse was also stolen and was later found in the basement without cash. He reported he hosted a party for about 30 friends and the items were stolen during the party.
7:48 p.m.
A proctor at Douglass Park reported a tenant at 650 Columbus Ave. entered the lobby and instructed the proctor to call NUPD and Boston Police to the third floor of that building. She gave no further information. Officers responded and reported a student and woman with no university affiliation were involved in a verbal altercation about the student not removing his laundry from a washing machine. The student allegedly made threatening comments to the woman.
11:10 p.m.
An employee reported that the glass in the front door of a room in Behrakis Hall was shattered. Officers said that the room connects with several other rooms and that four computers were missing. They filed a work order and police report.
Monday, March 4
10:41 a.m.
A staff member reported receiving emails from a student along with pictures showing the student injured in a motor vehicle accident. The staff member said the student had sent multiple previous emails requesting a grade change. The staff member reported that he now felt unsafe.
3:47 p.m.
A staff member reported that an iPad was stolen from the admissions center in West Village F sometime after Feb. 26. The iPad had been left on a table in the unsecured room. A wireless mouse was also missing.
8:20 p.m.
A facilities staff member reported that he believed a man and a woman had just gone into the basement restrooms in International Village to take drugs. The officers responded and reported locating a man and woman with no university affiliation. The man was taken into custody for possession of heroin after officers discovered a loaded syringe. The woman was sent on her way.
Tuesday, March 5
2:08 p.m.
A female student reported that while she was entering the library a man made inappropriate comments to her. Officers responded and reported speaking with the female and male student, who said he was working on a project for sleep command and was asking the woman questions. She reported she became annoyed with the questions and that he started talking about his girlfriend. She reported that she found the conversation inappropriate.
6:11 p.m.
An RD reported smelling the odor of marijuana on the second floor of Speare Hall. Officers responded, spoke with two students and confiscated a small amount of marijuana.
Wednesday, March 6
12:19 a.m.
Facilities staff members reported that they had received a call from a supervisor who told them he had received a call from employees who saw an unknown man in the basement of Behrakis Hall. Officers responded and spoke with the employees, who described the man. Officers searched the area with no results. After, they performed a top-to-bottom check of Behrakis and reported a door to a biology lab room was broken with a rock, which provided access to that room and another room. It appeared two computers and two keyboards were missing.
Thursday, March 7
5:50 p.m.
A Marino Center staff member reported a student’s unattended iPhone was stolen. Officers responded and spoke to the student, who said his phone and Husky Card were stolen from the Marino Center second floor.
10:58 p.m.
A student reported smelling the odor of marijuana around an apartment in 106 St. Stephen St. Officers responded and spoke with a student and former student who both admitted to smoking a joint. Officers confiscated a small amount of marijuana.
Friday, March 8
5:22 p.m.
Qdoba staff reported a man, possibly intoxicated, was causing a disturbance in the restaurant. Officers responded and reported stopping a man with no university affiliation. He was placed into custody on an outstanding warrant.
Saturday, March 9
2:03 p.m.
A University of New Hampshire student reported someone had smashed the driver’s side window of his vehicle, which was parked in front of 214 Hemenway St. Officers responded and reported a backpack with a laptop was stolen.
9:27 p.m.
An RA at 116 St. Stephen St. reported smelling the odor of marijuana. Officers responded and reported speaking with a student and confiscating marijuana.
Sunday, March 10
1:19 a.m.
A student reported his friend, an Assumption College student, was intoxicated, semi-alert and throwing up. Boston EMS responded and brought the man to Carney Hospital.
3:39 a.m.
A resident reported loud music coming from an apartment at 204 Hemenway St. Officers responded and reported speaking to the residents of the apartment, who were playing instruments. The residents agreed to stop for the night.
Monday, March 11
7:56 a.m.
A passerby told an officer that there was an odd-looking device on the steps of the New England Conservatory. Boston Police and Conservatory security were notified. Officers responded and reported there was a device with two cylinders connected by wires to a switch. A Boston Police bomb squad responded and determined the device was not dangerous.
12:34 p.m.
A woman entered NUPD headquarters to report a man in the Snell Library Quad was yelling at passersby. The man was described as wearing an army jacket and an eye patch. Officers spoke to the man, who was not affiliated with Northeastern, and he was sent on his way.
2:16 p.m.
A Northeastern staff member reported that she had accidentally left her wallet on the counter of the ladies bathroom on the second floor of Ryder Hall. When she went to retrieve it, it was gone.
