Couches were added to the Northeastern Student Veterans Organization (SVO) room in the Forsyth Building this week, finishing off a space that doubles as a lounge and office for the group.
The space contains a TV and Blu-ray player in addition to the couches. SVO President Michael Trudeau said the upgrade was made possible by a $1,418 allocation from the Student Activity Fund by the Finance Board.
“We’re really grateful to the entire undergraduate student body,” he said.
Northeastern’s SVO has received national recognition, and in January was named Chapter of the Year by the advocacy group Student Veterans of America.
“We see at the national level that sometimes the veterans are considered the lonely men on camp because they feel like they’re the only ones like themselves on campus,” Trudeau said.
He said the room in the Forsyth Building will serve as a central point for student veterans at Northeastern to gather with people who share similar experiences.
“This is basically a sanctuary for veterans that Northeastern allocated to us and it’s completely student-run,” Trudeau said.
