Students for Israel at Northeastern (SFIN) was once a tiny student group with only three dedicated members. After this semester, however, with strong leadership and hard work, we can now boast a membership of more than 20 enthusiastic students.
SFIN has held several successful, amazing events. On Monday, March 30, more than 150 people showed up to the Curry Student Center to watch ‘A Case for Israel,’ a documentary film by the legendary Alan Dershowitz. A Q&A session with Dershowitz followed the showing of the film.
On Wednesday, March 25, hundreds of students ate falafel and pita, and grooved to Israeli music at our Second Annual iFest in Centennial Commons. Another event that attracted dozens of people, many of whom knew little of Israeli culture, was Krav Maga. One of the most famous fourth degree black belts in the world, Moshe Katz, flew to Boston from Jerusalem in order to teach us this intricate form of Israeli martial arts.
We have had seminars on Israeli music, hosted speakers, attended rallies and worked together to build a truly successful and strong student group. SFIN has only had a positive impact on me and I am sad to graduate and leave it behind, but I know it will only get stronger in the future. I encourage all students interested in learning about Israeli culture and society to join SFIN.
