Devin Petta, a freshman forward on the Northeastern women’s soccer team, was named a second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Tuesday.
Petta scored 14 goals in her freshman campaign for the Huskies (12-4-3) and led the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in goals and points. She was one of three freshmen named All-Americans this year.
She is also the only player to ever be honored as the CAA Rookie of the Year and CAA Player of the Year in the same season. Petta’s 35 points this season led the Huskies to their first-ever CAA regular season title.
The All-American recognition comes a day after her recognition as first-team All-New England by the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association.
Petta was unable to play in the team’s CAA semifinal game against James Madison Nov. 6 because of an injury. She tore her ACL in the season finale, Oct. 31 against Hofstra at Parsons Field, a 4-0 Huskies victory. NU lost to JMU in the semifinal 3-1.
