Since the beginning of music, there have been love songs. For every feeling and every stage of the relationship, there’s a song to relate to. If you’re in need of some lyrics that speak to your current situation, listen to this varied and soulful playlist.
1. “Cold, Cold Heart” – Norah Jones
He’s still hung up on his ex. You’re trying to get through to him but it’s not working. You may start to think you’re just the rebound or placeholder. He always looks like he’s thinking back to something and you’ll slowly drift away from him.
2. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” – Lauryn Hill
You’re completely smitten and they can do nothing wrong in your eyes. You’re basking in infatuation. This is the song of your daydreams.
3. “Sandcastle Disco” – Solange
You just met a cool, sleek guy that may be a player. He’s saying all the right things. You’re worried he’s just trouble because he’s known to run around with other girls. It will be all fun and games until that exclusivity talk.
4. “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” – John Mayer
So this is the song that will echo throughout your apartment after you’ve broken up too many times. Things just aren’t working out and this may be the end now. You’re bitter and you’re going to say things you don’t mean because you’re hurt.
5. “Primetime” – Janelle Monáe
Tonight’s the night that it will happen. Both of you have been doing that dance of carefully calculated messages and you’re both ready. You’ve waited long enough and built up just enough tension to make it deliciously irresistible.
6. “Together” – Sam Smith
Play this one when you’re keeping it casual and just looking for fun. Maybe this is a friend you’re looking at differently now. This will set the mood for when you’re coming over late, lights are dimmed and wine’s flowing.
7. “Cool” – Gwen Stefani
You have no hard feelings and you’re cool with that ex from years ago. You’ll bump into them on the street and smile instead of look away. You may even be okay with catching up over a cup of coffee sometime.
8. “Banana Pancakes” – Jack Johnson
This one is for the lazy days with your boo. When you can sigh because you’ve got something good and you’re enjoying the contented bliss of domestic life. This is the stuff of poetry and what everyone’s looking for.
