State police are reporting one person injured in a shooting at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Tuesday. The suspect has been located and is in custody.
In a tweet, Massachusetts police said they were helping in a “reported shooting,” but that the Boston Police Department will be the investigating agency.
“There has been a shooting in the Shapiro building (70 Francis Street), and the suspect has been apprehended. The Shapiro Center has been locked down, and all staff are asked to remain in place. More information will be shared as it becomes available,” the hospital said in a statement.
Brigham and Women’s is currently in a “code black,” meaning no new patients are being accepted, but the hospital is not in a full lock down, nor is it being evacuate. Green Line service between Brigham Circle and Heath Street is currently suspended.
The Boston Police Department’s official Twitter feed reads “Suspect in Brigham & Women’s shooting in custody. Hospital not in lock down. Situation under control.”
Update: Michael J. Davidson the 44-year-old director of endovascular cardiac surgery at Brighman and Women’s hospital, died Tuesday night after he was shot by a gunman that asked for him by name.
“Dr. Davidson was a wonderful and inspiring cardiac surgeon who devoted his career to saving lives and improving the quality of life of every patient he cared for,” the hospital said in a statement. “It is truly devastating that his own life was taken in this horrible manner.”
The shooter has been identified as 55-year-old Stephen Pasceri, who was found by police dead inside an exam room after turning the gun on himself.
