Op-ed: Student spirit brought us the Beanpot victory
February 19, 2018
Students,
It’s difficult for me to put into words how blown away our team is with the outpouring of support we received from all of you the last two Mondays at TD Garden. Looking up to a sea of red and black in the balcony is something that we’ll always remember, and the passion and enthusiasm that you brought to the building each night was awe-inspiring and without a doubt played a major role in our success over the last two weeks.
We’ve wanted to bring that Beanpot trophy back to where it belongs for many, many years, and we hope you’ve been able to share in that joy just as much as our program has.
This Beanpot championship belongs to you just as much as it belongs to our team. We did this together, and we cannot thank you enough for all your support. We are so proud to say that we have the best fans in college hockey!
Our team set four goals at the start of this season, and we accomplished the first on Monday night. As we shift our focus to the second goal, a Hockey East regular season championship, our hope is that you continue along this journey with us. Bring that same level of energy that lifted the roof off TD Garden back to the DogHouse in Matthews Arena on Feb. 23 when we host New Hampshire on Senior Night and help catapult our program into the conference playoffs and beyond.
Tickets for that game, and all home playoff games in March, are available for free on the myNortheastern portal.
We are now, officially, the top team in Boston. But there is still work to be done, and we look forward to having all of you there with us every step of the way. So, again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything that you do for our program, and we can’t wait to see you back at Matthews as we work toward another Hockey East championship. You were there for us in 2016. Let’s do it again in 2018.
Go Huskies!
