If sharing a shower with an entire floor of freshmen isn’t appealing, living in West Village F is for you. The brand new building, which features two private showers in each of its six-person apartments, swept the freshman housing category, breezing past Stetson East and West, Kennedy, Speare and Smith halls.
Reserved for first-year honors students, who before 2006 lived in former best freshman housing winner Kennedy Hall, West Village F provides private common rooms and kitchen areas, each complete with a refrigerator, oven, sink and dishwasher – amenities typically reserved for upperclassmen.
Each apartment has three double bedrooms.
“It’s great to be able to come back to your own space – your own bedroom, kitchen, shower, everything,” said freshman Kelsey Diederich, a biology and international affairs major. She said living with five other girls has forged a family-style relationship among them.
“My roommates and I have family dinners,” she said. “We watch Grey’s [Anatomy], rent movies, decorate – everything. This is our own little home.”
West Village F is located in the middle of campus, conveniently next to a Wollaston’s and several classrooms buildings.
“I actually have some classes here [in West Village F],” Diederich said. “Some kids can go to the dining hall in their slippers, but I could go to class like that if I really wanted to.”
Home to the campus dining halls, Stetson East and Stetson West did put up the biggest fight, but barely put a dent in the West Village F’s standing.
“I love it here,” Diederich said. “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
