A man in a surgical mask broke into Hillside Market in Mission Hill at approximately 4 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12 and stole cigarettes and cash from the register, said part-owner Nick Patel after watching footage from the store’s security cameras. 

The store was closed at the time of the robbery, and no one was inside. 

Patel estimated the robber stole between $300 and $400 from the cash register. The pane of glass facing Hillside Street was shattered and left with a large hole, but Patel said there was no other damage to the property.

Patel said he couldn’t get a good look at the person on the security camera footage because they were wearing a mask. Patel said he believes the robber was a man under the age of 30. Boston Police contacted Patel and said a suspect was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14. 

The last time Hillside Market experienced a break-in was approximately two years ago, in which the robber stole only cigarettes.

Hillside Market has sat on the corner of Hillside Street and Calumet Street since 1919, and it is a frequent spot for Northeastern students and Mission Hill residents alike.
