Every corner in New England is graced by Dunkin’ Donuts’ presence. By the beginning of winter quarter, the coffee franchise will find a new home in Shillman Hall.
Dunkin’ Donuts will be added in addition to the other fast food kiosks already on campus. Chartwells will continue managing the space and will allow the caffeine powerhouse to accept the Husky Card.
“I am almost positive they will be taking the Husky Card. I don’t see why they wouldn’t,” said Steve Manard, the dining services manager in the student center, where other popular kiosks are located. “Yes, I am 99 percent sure.”
The popular coffee chain could give Starbucks a run for its money on campus, if it can match its average daily figures.
On an average day, Dunkin’ Donuts sells more than 20 cups of freshly brewed coffee each second, equaling more than 1.5 million cups daily, according to dunkindonuts.com.
Students are excited about the coffee; one student expressed excitement for the purchasing power of the Husky Card at D’Ds.
“I seek out Dunkin’ Donuts, and now that they are putting one in Shillman, it would be better than walking all the way to the end of Gainsborough,” said Sarah Gregory, a freshman undecided major. “Especially if you can use the Husky Card in Shillman.”
While saying “hello” to Dunkin’ Donuts, Northeastern will be saying “good-bye” to Chartwells, Shillman Cafe’s previous coffee quick fixer. One thing we will not be saying good-bye to however, is the current staff.
