The Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama was filled with people and cats Oct. 12 and 13, who gathered to celebrate felines at the Boston Catstravaganza hosted by Loving Cats Worldwide

Over two days of competition, five international judges issued awards for cats across a variety of groups including kittens, juniors, adults, alters and household cats. Titles included Best Kitten, Best Cat, Best Alter, Best Household Pet Kitten and Best Household Pet.

In addition to the judging, the event hosted several panels to educate the general public on the species. Presentations included discussions on Sphynx cats, Scottish folds, history of the Siberian cat and Maine Coons. The event also featured local rescues and charities where attendees considering adoption could learn more about the process.

The annual event took place at the Boston Arts Center for the first time since 1997 — the show had previously been held at the Hynes Convention Center. There were approximately 80 cats in attendance and 60 participated in the competition. While some vendors traveled with the event, local businesses in Boston sold merchandise at booths surrounding the five judging circles. International judges hailed from Kentucky, the United Kingdom and Brazil. Attendees could purchase a variety of products, including cat toys and scratching posts. Other booths sold cat-related commodities such as jewelry, clothing, face masks and keychains.

Boston was one of over 50 locations on the Cat Extravaganza international tour. Upcoming locations include the United Kingdom, Japan, Florida and Columbia.
