B.GOOD, the farm fresh chain restaurant inside the Marino Recreation Center, closed its doors permanently Oct. 18 after nearly eight years of operation.
The fast-casual spot was known for its burgers, fries and smoothies and serving up a quick farm-to-table meal.
Students had mixed feelings about the closure. Some say they are losing a staple — others are saying good riddance to B.GOOD.
“I was very disturbed by [the closure],” said Connor Britson, a fourth-year business administration major. “When I heard the news, I got weak in the knees. But I have since realized that B.GOOD is actually not that good.”
The university said in an email statement that a new restaurant will open “soon,” but did not provide further details.
B.GOOD, which was on track to operate 60 locations by March 2017, now has seven locations in Massachusetts, including one in Downtown Crossing on Summer Street and two inside Logan International Airport.
The location on Northeastern’s campus opened in December 2016 as part of a transition between former Boloco restaurants to the new B.GOOD spots. The transition, announced a few months before B.GOOD’s opening, came as Boloco sold its space to B.GOOD to sustain its business.
The reason for the restaurant’s closure is still unclear, but B.GOOD often had only a few customers or was completely devoid of visitors during the day, unlike nearby bustling spots such as Tatte Bakery & Cafe and El Jefe’s Taqueria.
“I’ve been to B.GOOD twice and both times I’ve had horrible experiences,” said Holly Perna, a third-year theatre and music industry combined major. “I wanted a nice hearty meal. But my fries were soggy and my smoothie had chunks of kale in it. I was disappointed.”
It is unclear when another business is set to take over the space. Students are hopeful for a space that will serve many in the Northeastern community.
“I hope that they put in something that a lot of students like and also have a lot of options for students with different dietary restrictions and needs,” said Hannah Escandon, a fourth-year journalism and international affairs combined major. “Something that’s beneficial for students at Northeastern and for them to have healthy and nutritious meals.”
