Northeastern head volleyball coach Lenika Vazquez will not be returning as head coach for the 2025 season, according to an Instagram post shared by the volleyball team Dec. 4.
“I would like to thank Lenika for her five years of service to Northeastern University and the women’s volleyball program,” said Northeastern Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Madigan in the Instagram post. “I wish her the best in her future endeavors. As we begin a national search for the next leader of our women’s volleyball team, we remain committed to building a program that our student-athletes, alumni and supporters can be proud of.”
Vazquez has coached the team since 2020 and during her tenure, the Huskies notched a 55- 61 record, which is just below an even record. This past season, the team finished with a 10-16 and 8-10 CAA record, failing to qualify for the CAAs for the first time since 2015. While they were strong at home with an 8-3 record, the Huskies only managed to win one game on the road against the North Carolina A&T Aggies Sept. 28.
During Vazquez’s debut season, Northeastern made it to the CAA championships but ultimately lost to the Towson Tigers in three sets. In the following seasons, the team made it to the CAA quarterfinals in 2021 and 2023 and the CAA semifinals in 2022. Vazquez previously coached at Canisius University and Chicago State University.
The athletic department has launched a national search to find a replacement for Vazquez, according to the Instagram post.
