Kicking off the 2025 awards season, the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards blessed viewers with an impressive nominee list and many deserving wins, spreading across phenomenal cinematic wonders. In addition to “Shōgun”’s triple win, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet’s public return and Zendaya’s engagement ring, the Golden Globes also headlined the internet with a discussion-worthy red carpet.
Michelle Yeoh
Madame Morrible in “Wicked” was not Michelle Yeoh’s only successful role this year. The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actress appeared in an explosive outfit contrasting her usual elegance, wearing a Balenciaga dress after starring in the brand’s Bel Air handbag campaign. On this year’s Golden Globes red carpet, Yeoh brought her luxurious personality to an edgy gown complete with a mermaid line dress and flared polo neckline that accentuated her natural curves. Yeoh also debuted bangs as part of her look.
Zendaya
Zendaya stole the spotlight for the night after subtly showing off her rumored engagement ring, but her main look was a tangerine-colored design by Louis Vuitton. Styled by designer Law Roach, Zendaya did not wear the dress but “served” it as a tribute to Black Hollywood stars Diahann Caroll, Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Dandridge and Joyce Bryant. With the classic tea-length gown and distinctive bustle, the silhouette brought out the majestic appearance of the “Challengers” actress. Her elegant and powerful energy was bedazzled with a diamond necklace-ring set from Bulgari.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton’s classic tweed top and mermaid tail skirt combination was a trademark look. Known for rocking every body-accented outfit, Swinton showed everyone on the Golden Globes red carpet how classic Chanel patterns are meant to be worn. With minimal jewelry and an elegant take on a mohawk, the “The Room Next Door” actress delivered the timelessness of the look that she said she considered her “dress uniform” in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. In other words, the look was delicate but powerful.
Nicole Kidman
The flowiest dress on the red carpet belonged to Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga. Contrasting the usual edgy nature of Balenciaga, Kidman glided onto the carpet in the 52nd couture collection. The “Babygirl” actress, in her high ponytail, showed off a backless dress featuring the ageless crystal-embroidered mesh look. Kidman complemented her dress with Balenciaga drop earrings made of diamond and tanzanite.
Demi Moore
“I had this magical, bold, courageous, out of the box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called ‘The Substance,’ and the universe told me, ‘You’re not done,’” Demi Moore said during her acceptance speech for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Little did she know, Moore also won the red carpet. In a custom metallic-feel Giorgio Armani Privé gown and Cartier jewels, Brad Goreski styled Moore to foreshadow a glorious win.
Anya Taylor-Joy
There seemed to be a flowy theme on the carpet this year, and the Dior brand ambassador could not miss out. Anya Taylor-Joy was a beautiful silky-rose dream as she walked past the flashing cameras in a luxury Dior couture dress. The John Galliano design for his Dior spring 1998 collection embraced Taylor-Joy’s curves with an embroidered fringe shawl and dainty Jimmy Choo heels. As elegant as the look was, whether her Tiffany & Co. jewels complemented or stole her spotlight is still up for debate.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo doesn’t just dress for formality’s sake — he tells a story too. The “Sing Sing” actor and his stylists worked closely with Valentino’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele to curate his red carpet outfit. The look included a classic black-and-white color combination and tuxedo silhouette, but for Domingo, “basic” is not in the dictionary. Domingo paired a mohair wool tuxedo with a polka-dotted shirt and a black-and-white checkered bow. The combination of patterns, thought at first to be unimaginably disorganized, ended up being a chaotically harmonious success.
Anna Sawai
With perhaps the riskiest look to wear around red wine and food at the Golden Globes, Anna Sawai donned an elegant yet edgy look made custom by Dior to the red carpet. The materials contrasted between the belted bustier strapless top and the satin-leather wraparound skirt but stayed uniform in white, telling the story of Sawai’s character in “Shōgun.” The four-stranded silver chain choker and dainty diamond ring, both from the Cartier archive, tied together the look of a warrior.
Felicity Jones
Bringing a hot and fresh look from the Prada spring/summer 2025 runway to the Golden Globes red carpet was Felicity Jones and her stylist Nicky Yates with a mind-blowing mirror dress. The fabric exposed perfectly carved mirror pieces, evoking a chaotic feeling. Unlike the runway styling with a yellow anorak and visor cap, Jones picked a chic combination of sleek hair and Chopard jewelry to add a different perspective to the gown, living up to the collection’s agenda. Paired with a Prada reflective purse and heels, the “The Brutalist” actress accurately reflected the film’s edginess.
Jeremy Strong
Jeremy Strong was easy to spot on the red carpet, decked out in a distinctive shade of mint green. From head to toe, Strong took his monochromatic theme seriously. With a custom plush velvet suit from Loro Piana, the “Succession” actor accented his look with retro aviator sunglasses and a white turtleneck. Strong’s decision to add a bucket hat was questionable, but came with an interesting reason: He was covering up a “wild-looking” hairstyle for “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” an in-production Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. While the look did not violate red carpet rules, it was a stylistically-bizarre move.
Ali Wong
Ali Wong’s win for Best Performance in Stand-up Comedy on Television was deserving, though whether her dress was one of the best on the carpet is still up in the air. Ruffle dresses have always been a fashion statement, and not everyone does it right. However, Wong and her custom red Balenciaga gown have a story to tell: The comedian iron-curled her dress before the night started. Made from tulle tendrils, the gown had a somewhat relaxed silhouette on a solid black under-dress paired with gloves, pointed heels and Wong’s classic black-framed glasses. Despite the classic color pairing, the outfit was missing something that could’ve given it more of a whimsical feel.
The red carpet was surely an eye-blessing show from the award night itself. Every outfit was a visualization of the immense dedication to telling a story, a tribute, a representation or all of the above.
