A cold, rainy night in Cambridge didn’t stop fans from lining up to see Tom The Mail Man Jan. 18 for his “Romance & Pandemonium” tour.
Tom The Mail Man, a hip-hop, punk and indie artist, recently released his newest album, “Romance & Pandemonium,” and traveled to the Sonia on his tour of the same name. Fans were lined up outside early to snag spots closest to the stage and sing along to their favorite songs.
The opener, Tahj Keeton, an Atlanta native who now lives in Los Angeles, raised the crowd’s energy with chants.
He constantly moved throughout his set, leaning toward the audience, walking around the stage and dancing during the guitarist’s solos. The guitarist, introduced to the crowd as “Greg,” was an audience favorite, with cheers erupting during solos when he stepped to the edge of the stage.
After Keeton’s warmup, Tom entered from stage left to whoops and cheers from the audience. He greeted the audience warmly, crouching at the edge of the stage and smiling while his DJ played an instrumental introduction.
He sang new and old favorites to the audience’s delight, such as songs from his most recent album like “Get Out My Body” and “Revenge” and “SometimesIGetLonley” from the album “Schizo.”
Throughout the concert, he also shared stories with the audience, including one about his love of Rebecca Sugar, the creator of the Cartoon Network show “Steven Universe” and a writer on “Adventure Time.” His song “While You Wonder I Rot” was inspired by her musical style.
Tom also led the audience in chants, like “I won’t say we’re not friends … I won’t say I’m not dead,” before the song “NOTDEAD!”
Toward the end of his set, he stepped into the audience and motioned for the crowd to gather around him as they sang and jumped together to “Last Night,” which contained an interpolation of the iconic riff from the Foo Fighters song “Everlong.” Tom thanked the band and Dave Grohl, the lead singer and guitarist of Foo Fighters, before launching into the song.
The energetic performance brought another night of high spirits and fan celebrations to the Sonia.
