Crime Log

Crime Log entries are selected from Northeastern’s Division of Public Safety reports.

Tuesday, October 14 8:45 a.m. A faculty member teaching in Behrakis Health Sciences Center reported that a strange man had walked into the classroom and sat down. Other people in the building said they also saw him walking into offices and saying he had been sent there by a presidential candidate to pick up his Master’s degree. Northeastern University Division of Public Safety (NUPD) officers came to the scene and identified him as 30-year-old Andrea Ramos who has no affiliation with Northeastern. He had three arrest warrants from the city of Boston for drug possession and trespassing and assault He had failed to appear in court for the charges. He was arrested and taken off campus.

11:30 a.m. A student reported her Northeastern Husky ID card had been used by a stranger in 30 vending machine purchases on campus after she had lost it. NUPD is reviewing videos from the residence halls.

5:30 p.m. A student reported her bike stolen after she found it missing from a fence she had locked it to outside Egan Engineering Science Research Center. She had parked it at 2 p.m.

11:30 p.m. An NUPD officer saw a group of people smoking in the Fens across from Melvin Hall. The officer approached the group and smelled marijuana. People in the group were identified as a 17-year-old female student, 18-year-old male student and five 19-year-old male students. The 18-year-old admitted they were sharing his marijuana, and said he had discarded it just before the officer approached them. Everyone will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR). Two of the students in the group had already been reported to OSCCR at least once this semester for drug violations.

Wednesday, October 15 12:30 a.m. A caller reported seeing a man who was bleeding and appeared to have been assaulted near the Ruggles T station. NUPD officers located the man, who said he had been assaulted a block away. He had no affiliation with Northeastern, and the Boston Police Department (BPD) who also responded took jurisdiction over the case.

4 p.m. A student reported her Global Positioning System unit stolen from her car, which she had parked on Parker Street near West Campus at 8 a.m. that day. There was no sign of forced entry, but a back door was found unlocked.

6:15 p.m. A student reported her bike stolen after she had parked it in front of 114 Hemenway Street on Monday. The cable lock was also missing.

Thursday, October 16 3:15 p.m. UMass Boston campus police reported a laptop stolen from their campus that had an Internet locator program in it. The program showed it was transmitting from a Northeastern IP address. NUPD worked with Northeastern Information Services to trace it, and narrowed the location down to somewhere where the NUwave Wireless Guest Network is accessible. The laptop went offline before NUPD could narrow down which wireless receiver it was nearest to.

4:15 p.m. A faculty member reported her laptop missing after she left her office in Lake Hall unlocked and unattended for about 15 minutes at 3:30 p.m.

7 p.m. Two callers reported an aggressive begger on Huntington Avenue near the Marino Center who had gone into Qdoba Mexican Grill and asked for money from people at tables. NUPD officers stopped him outside and identified him as a 52-year-old homeless man. BPD officers also responded and said they knew of the man and that he was not dangerous. He was asked not to return to the campus neighborhood.

Friday, October 17 2:30 p.m. Athletics staff at Matthews Arena reported a portable GPS unit and camcorder taken from an office in the arena. They said the items had been stolen sometime during the previous week.

3:30 p.m. A student reported his laptop missing after leaving it in the School of Law study area for about 15 minutes at 3 p.m. while he used the restroom. His backpack was found stuffed under bookshelves. A friend of his reported seeing a suspicious person who did not appear to be a student loitering in the School of Law Library.

9:30 p.m. A resident assistant (RA) in Kennedy Hall, responding to excessive noise, called NUPD when residents challenged her authority to investigate. The resident, who NUPD officers identified as an 18-year-old student, was cooperative with police and turned over a bottle of vodka, which he and a student from Emerson College had been drinking. The student will be reported to OSCCR and his visitor will be reported to officials at Emerson.

Saturday, October 18 2:30 a.m. An RA in West Village A called NUPD because she smelled marijuana. NUPD officers identified a 20-year-old female student smoking marijuana in a pipe, and confiscated the drugs. She will be reported to OSCCR.

2:45 a.m. An officer on Hemenway Street noticed a female passed out in the foyer of 120 Hemenway Street. She was awoken and identified as a 19-year-old student. Her boyfriend, who is also a student, arrived shortly after and said she had been drinking and was on prescription medications that were not supposed to be mixed with alcohol. She was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and will be reported to OSCCR.

3:15 a.m. An RA in Kennedy Hall called NUPD when she encountered two students with 18 beers. After questioning, the RA discovered the female was 18-years-old, and her male visitor was 17-years-old male. The beers were confiscated and the Northeastern student will be reported to OSCCR.

3:45 a.m. A student reported her iPod missing from her suite in Kennedy Hall. She said her roommates had several overnight guests, and they believed one of the guests probably took it.

3:15 p.m. An NUPD officer saw a female smoking marijuana in The Fens across from Melvin Hall. The officer identified her as a 19-year-old student and confiscated her pipe and a small amount of marijuana that was in her purse. She will be reported to OSCCR.

4 p.m. A Northeastern’s Homecoming football game at Parsons Field, NUPD officers saw a pickup truck with a beer ball in the back, and a couple of people pumping the tap. NUPD said about 20 people gathered around the truck, and dispersed when officers approached. The people pumping the tap were all younger than 21-years-old, and the truck appeared to have been operated by members of one of Northeastern’s fraternities. The names of several underage students, all of whom belonged to the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, were taken and will be reported to OSCCR. The fraternity they belonged to may also be sanctioned as well.

Sunday, October 19 2 a.m. NUPD received a call about an argument at White Hall between a man and woman. NUPD identified the two as an 18-year-old female student and her 19-year-old boyfriend, who has no Northeastern affiliation. The boyfriend said he had a panic attack, punched a wall and hurt his hand. Once he was treated for the panic attack and composed, he was issued a trespass warning and told he is not welcome back on campus.

Monday, October 20 Noon A student reported his backpack missing after she left it on the third floor of Snell Library at 10:30 a.m. while she went to class. The backpack contained her laptop and wallet. Her wallet had contained credit cards.

3 p.m. A faculty member reported a laptop stolen from an office in the basement of Nightingale Hall, which she left unlocked and unattended for five minutes. Her wallet was also taken from her purse, which contained $50 and some credit cards. Her cell phone and iPod, which were in the same purse, were not taken.

4:30 p.m. A student reported his bike stolen after he had parked it at a bench in front of Davenport Commons. He said he had locked it Friday.

5:30 p.m. A student reported his iPod, headphones and Huksy ID stolen after he fell asleep while studying in Snell Library at 4 p.m. for about an hour.

A Northeastern law student reported his backpack stolen after he left it unattended for 10 minutes in the School of Law Library. It contained a laptop and about $60.
