The women’s hockey team was shut out in a pair of Hockey East games during the Thanksgiving break, going down 2-0 at New Hampshire (8-4-3, 4-1-2 HE) Wednesday before losing by the same score at Boston College (9-3-3, 6-2-1 HE) Sunday.
After being out-shot 36-12 in Durham N.H., the Huskies (6-5-2, 3-3-0 Hockey East) rebounded to fire 27 shots at BC goaltender Molly Schaus, but they were unable to score any goals in support of their freshman netminder, Florence Schelling. Schelling started both games, making 34 saves against the Wildcats and 27 against the Eagles.
Schelling has played ever game since sophomore Leah Sulyma suffered a 4-3 loss at Wayne State Nov. 14. Sulyma’s last start prior to that had been Nov. 1 against BC, when she surrendered five goals and Northeastern suffered its first defeat of the season.
The Huskies had been 5-0-2 before that game, and found themselves ranked No. 10 in the country even after the home loss against BC. In their last six games, however, the Huskies have scored a total of nine goals, four of which came in a win against Maine. They have been held scoreless four times this season, including three times during November.
Northeastern will look to match its win total from last season Saturday, when they travel to Vermont to play the Catamounts (3-11-1, 1-4 HE. The Huskies do not return home until after winter break, when they hope to have senior defender Brenna Frost back in the lineup. Frost is currently sidelined with an ACL injury.
