Sophomore guard Jasmine Crew’s three-point shot fell short as time expired, denying the women’s basketball team their first win of the season last Tuesday at Matthews Arena against Boston University.
Crew finished with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting and eight boards in the 71-68 loss. Junior forward and co-captain Kendra Walton finished with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and also pulled down 16 rebounds. Both marks were career highs. Senior guard and co-captain Ashlee Feldman scored 11 points.
Northeastern held a 37-33 lead at halftime and started the second half with an 11-point lead thanks to Walton’s three-pointer. But the Terriers clawed their way back. They took their first lead since early in the first half when forward Christine Kinneary’s basket gave them a 57-56 lead with 5:24 left in the second half. They would lead by as many as six with 3:27 left in the game.
Crew hit a three-point shot with 18 seconds left to close the gap to 69-68. But BU forward Aly Hinton sank both her free throws to give the Terriers a 71-68 lead with six seconds left. Crew’ shot was then no good, dropping NU to 0-4. BU improved to 3-2 with the win.
Junior forward Kim Carr finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while Terrier forward Jesyka Burks-Wiley had 23 points and 10 rebounds.
BU center Kristi Dini chipped in with 16 points, while Hinton had 12 off the bench.
The Huskies will play Stony Brook on the road Saturday, as they begin a three-game road trip before returning to Boston to face Holy Cross Dec. 22.
