At the start of yesterday’s Faculty Senate meeting, Provost Stephen Director spoke positively about the exit interview by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) for Northeastern’s reaccredition.
“Based upon what we’ve heard, there’s no question that the university will be reaccredited,” Director said.
Director thanked the faculty for their assistance during the site visit and said administrators received valuable feedback from the NEASC team.
The process of revising the Faculty Handbook, a contentious issue for the Senate in the past, has been a place for improvement, Director said.
Members of NEASC heard from members of the university during their trip, including students.
Students shared concerns about the university Monday night with some of the team’s representatives, including dealing with academic advisor changes and the need for co-op advisors to have later office hours to accommodate working students at a forum held Monday in the Curry Student Center.
“You can have noble faculty members, but you don’t make it into the public’s eye unless you’re in the final four,” said Steven Joel Trachtenberg, president emeritus and university professor of public service at George Washington University and a member of the reaccreditation team.
About 30 students from various student groups attended the 40-minute discussion, regulated by accreditation team members Trachtenberg and Gerald Kauvar, special assistant to the president emeritus and a professional lecturer in public policy and public administration at George Washington.
Trachtenberg began by explaining that the goal of the forum was to listen to student’s concerns and report back to NEASC.
“I want you guys to pretend you’re the president [of Northeastern].
