CAMBRIDGE – On Nov 15th, 2006 junior guard and captain Matt Janning made his Huskies debute against Syracuse where he scored a team-high 16 points.
Two years and 984 points later, the junior guard reached a career milestone of 1000 points Wednesday night against Harvard in the team’s thrilling 76-71 double overtime win.
Janning connected on a jumper from just inside to arc with 8:06 to play in the first half to eclipse the mark.
The Watertown, Minn. native becomes the forth fastest Husky to reach the milestone.
“It feels great, finally getting there,” Janning said. “Its been on the table the last four games or so but to be able to do it in a win like this, close to home, close to Northeastern, its nice to do it in front of some home-town fans.”
He finished the game with a game-high 21 points.
Coming into this season, Janning was named to the pre-season all-conference first team. It was just another award on the long list of accomplishments that he has acquired over the years.
“He’s been a great scorer for us since day one,” said head coach Bill Coen. “Its not surprising that he was able to score again tonight. He’s been there for us each and every game and he’s just got a tremendous ability to score the basketball.”
