Jahmyl Telfort, a former star guard for Northeastern men’s basketball, made his NBA Summer League debut July 11 with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Telfort is the first Husky in 15 years to play in the Summer League and joins an elite group of fewer than 20 players in program history to reach the NBA. In the Summer League, alongside dozens of freshly drafted rookies and other talent, he’ll fight to earn training camp offers for a chance at a regular season NBA roster spot.
Despite going undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft, Telfort signed a free agency deal with the Clippers in late June, Sports Illustrated reported. He played five years of Division I basketball, spending his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at Northeastern from 2020 to 2023 before transferring to Butler University for two additional seasons.
Telfort received sparse playing time and recorded no stats in the Clippers’ first game July 11 against the Houston Rockets. His minutes rose to 12 in the Clippers’ July 13 matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he picked up three assists and a steal. He took his first shots July 14 against the Los Angeles Lakers and went two for two, scoring a tip layup and a three-pointer, alongside five rebounds. Telfort began to display his two-way play in his fourth game July 17, posting six points on two three-pointers, two rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal against the Denver Nuggets.
The Clippers are 3-1 in Summer League play thus far. With one game remaining July 20, Telfort will strive for more time off the bench to display the scoring and playmaking skills he honed in the NCAA.
Telfort, a 6-foot-7 guard-forward from Montreal, found success quickly as a Husky. He earned CAA Sixth Man of the Year, All-Rookie Team and Freshman All-American honors in his first season. He also led the Huskies through a tough stretch in the program’s history as they suffered losing records and early CAA Tournament exits.
Telfort led the team in minutes, points and field goals made in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He finished sixth in the CAA in scoring in his final year at Northeastern, averaging 16.4 points per game.
At Butler, Telfort gained experience and exposure in the competitive Big East, starting all 66 games. He ranked ninth in the conference in scoring during the 2024-25 season but landed in familiar postseason territory, unable to help the Bulldogs past the Big East quarterfinals.
Over his five-year college career, Telfort averaged 14.4 points, 2.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game on 44.1% field goal and 32.2% three-point shooting. He established himself as a two-way player and three-level scorer, impacting the game on all fronts.
The last Husky to play in the Summer League was Matt Janning in 2010, Northeastern’s fourth all-time leading scorer. Janning was also undrafted, but his strong showing earned him multiple training camp offers and a season in the NBA G League. In 2024, he returned to Northeastern as an assistant coach.
Bill Coen, head coach of Northeastern men’s basketball and the winningest in program history, called Telfort “the heart and soul of our program” and “a coach’s dream” in a 2023 interview with Northeastern Global News, or NGN.
“I definitely believe I can make it to the NBA,” Telfort told NGN.
