Boston University star forward John Sabo pleaded not guilty to charges that he beat Terrier senior Christopher Boccuzzi, The BU Daily Free Press reported Tuesday.
Sabo, who allegedly beat Boccuzzi last fall, was in court on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon (a boot) assault and battery and threats to commit a crime.
According to The Free Press, Sabo was released from custody after pleading not guilty on his own recognizance.
The charge of assault with a deadly weapon would serve 10 years in a state prison should Sabo get convicted.
Sabo was charged with a fourth crime, “maliciously attempting to maim or disfigure,” that would have been a maximum of 20 years in prison, but the charge was dropped.
According to the Daily Free Press, four of the apparent eight witnesses backed Sabo’s claim.
Sabo, who is an assistant captain for the Terriers, scored four goals and added an assist in three games this season against Northeastern.
