The dogs put in some work on Sunday.
Freshman standout Jose Juan Barea’s 25-foot 3-point shot with less than a second remaining in a tied contest gave Northeastern a 71-68 victory over Maine at Walter Brown Arena. The conversion capped a staunch comback by Northeastern, who took control of the contest with about 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
A Barea alley-oop pass to Sylbrin Robinson gave Northeastern the tie. After regaining possesion, Barea, who broke Reggie Lewis’ school record for points in a postseason game with his 38-point explosion, avenged two earlier losses to Maine during the regular season.
Robinson had 14 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.
With the win, the Huskies advances to the conference semifinals against crosstown nemesis Boston University on Monday evening. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
