According to an ESPN.com report Monday, Husky senior Mike Ryan was traded from the Dallas Stars to the Buffalo Sabres for veteran winger Stu Barnes.
The former NU captain was aquired by the Stars in the second round of the 1999 NHL entry draft, selected with the 32nd overall pick.
Ryan, at 6-1 180 pounds, led NU in scoring during his final year, netting 18 goals and 14 assists in 32 games.
Ryan’s 113 career points tie him with former Husky, and current San Jose Shark, Dan McGillis for 30th on the all-time scoring table.
“I think it’ll be good for him,” said NU coach Bruce Crowder. “Dallas is one of these teams that brings in a ton of free agents, so he’ll get a better opportunity in Buffalo. However, on the flip side of that, he probably won’t get the millions of dollars he would’ve gotten in Dallas.”
Barnes, a veteran of 807 regular season NHL games, as well as 78 playoff contests, has scored over 475 points in regular season play, while notching 48 in the playoffs.
Buffalo also recieves a second round pick in 2003, according to ESPN.
