Northeastern officials announced during the intersession that it has purchased the property at 15 Coventry St. in Roxbury for $1 million.
“We don’t have any definite plans for the property at this time, but we own several properties in that area and when the property became available it seemed like a logical move,” said Northeastern Director of Communications Ed Klotzbier.
The now former owner, Dave Nosiglia, had used the property for his company, Smokehouse Inc., a provider of European sausages and smoked meats to restaurants, hotels, and other businesses. Nosiglia purchased the Coventry Street property 15 years ago for approximately $80,000, a substantial amount less than what he has sold the property to Northeastern for.
“When you get a million bucks handed to you, it’s a pretty good feeling,” Nosiglia told the Boston Globe.
With several new residence halls to be built in the near future, it has not yet been determined if this building will be considered for additional housing on campus. Despite the $1 million spent on this property, the university cannot offer a timetable for when a decision may be made, or what the future costs of construction at the site will be.
