A year after winning the school’s first Division 1 Grand National Cheerleading championship, the Huskies were back at it last weekend.
This time, however, the pep squad fell just short repeating as the cream of the crop, finishing second to Louisville at the 2003 Chick-fil-A Cheer and Dance Collegiate National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
NU’s score of 9.2 was bettered by Stephan F. Austin by just nine hundredth’s of a point. Louisville took this year’s Grand National Championship.
The event is the biggest event of its kind, and is sponsored by the National Cheerleading Association. Teams competing come from the U.S., Mexico, Japan and Canada, and is the most widely viewed cheer event in the history of collegiate spirit competitions, according to GoNU.com.
The Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship will be televised on Fox Sports Net April 30 and May 14.
