Northeastern University’s campus is rich in diversity and culture, providing a much more fulfilling experience to the students and allowing for cultural exchange with others. However, the benefits of diversity are easily taken away when there is a lack of communication or understanding amongst groups. Therefore, it is important that while the numerous organizations at Northeastern maintain and promote their values, they also inform others about themselves and further the opportunities for cooperation. This will serve to prevent misunderstandings amongst student groups and about the student groups on campus.
The benefits of a more informed and aware campus can be considerable. Students may become more active and involved, allowing for more cultural exchange and a better experience at Northeastern. Student organizations will be able to better cooperate and collaborate in order to enhance activities and further increase participation across our campus. Thus, the NU Diplomat presents an excellent opportunity to boost the cultural capital of Northeastern and could become a regular publication at the university, serving the student body.
This effort by the United Nations Association is a major initiative stemming from its role as the coordinating group for all cultural organizations on campus and I hope that it will make a considerable contribution to the goals of other groups. However, others must take advantage of this undertaking for it to be effective and I strongly encourage all to become contributors to this effort. Those that wish to contribute but are not represented by a student organization are welcome to do so.
The questions that should form the basis of your essay are as follows: How has involvement with a cultural organization affected your experience at Northeastern? What should other students or groups know about your organization? In order to promote diversity and cooperation on campus, the executive boards of each cultural student group should make sure that their group submits at least one essay to the United Nations Association publication, The NU Diplomat.
