For Northeastern students, there is no better place to shop than Newbury Street. Stretching from Mass. Ave. to the Boston Commons, one can find just about anything they’re looking for.
After a five minute walk from the Krentzman Quad, I found myself at Urban Outfitters, a fashion mecca for students on a budget. Although some items are pricey ($138 for jeans?), there is always a sale rack with great finds (a rug for $5!).
I continued on to Jasmine Sola Shoes where I found a nice pair of boots a few months ago for $25. Score! The shoe store was recently transformed and made similar to the original Jasmine Sola across the street which sells handbags, some makeup and clothes.
Close by is the popular Newbury Comics, Virgin Megastore, Trident Booksellers and a Hold Everything so your dorm room can look its craftiest. Allston Beat is another Newbury favorite where you can find merchandise from Paul Frank, Halloween costumes and “grungy” clothing.
The Puma Store carries athletic gear, t-shirts and every Puma shoe you could imagine. Roxy Quiksilver is a local favorite, carrying men and women’s clothing, including beach wear. They also have a phone inside where you can make free local calls if your cell phone happens to be dead.
Closer to the Common are a few high-price designer stores if that’s what you’re looking for. Louis Boston carries clothes which are hard to find elsewhere in the Hub. Burberry, DKNY, Max Mara and Chanel are also in the area. On the other end, you can head over to Marshall’s if you’re looking for a bargain.
There are also middle-priced stores which include Guess, French Connection and Express. The streets are in alphabetical order (Arlington, Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth) so you should have no problem finding your way.
If it’s a nice day, or more often than not, a rainy, cold or cloudy day, Newbury Street is a great place to meet up with friends, go for dinner, and of course, shop!
