Amid the bars and clubs that line Lansdowne Street, Avalon is by far the diamond in the rough. Whether it’s the bass thumping through your body as you enter the club, or the girls in bikinis atop lifeguard chairs, Avalon was voted the best club by NU students.
Though a bit pricey, Avalon offers a slightly upscale, yet hip atmosphere for club goers. The scenery is ever changing inside the club, including the decorations and the people within the club are always on top of what’s in.
Avalon has a diverse line-up for the weekends, beginning on Thursday night, which is hip-hop night, a 19+ event with a $15 cover. Avalon turns into Avaland on Friday nights, with a $20 cover. Saturday nights feature celebrity hosts. And rounding out the weekend on Sunday night is the largest and longest running gay night, featuring “World Class Circuit DJs” and “fabulous drag acts,” the Web site touts.
Not only is Avalon great for shakin’ your groove thang, the club is also great for concerts. Large enough to pack a lively crowd, but small enough to keep the venue intimate, Avalon is a great place to see a band play live, and ticket prices are affordable. If you and your fellow Huskies are looking to ‘get down’ one night after a Sox game, Avalon is the place to be Thursday through Sunday nights.
